Healthy Lunch News
Food for Thought:
It takes 5 oranges to make one 8 ounce glass of orange juice. A whole orange is a complex carbohydrate full of lots of nutrients and fiber. Juices are simple carbohydrates… processed down to the sugar. So, ditch the juice, and eat the fruit!
Children come to the lunch table hungry, thirsty, and eager to finish lunch so that they can go outside to play. We find that the children who gulp down their milk eat less of their lunch. Water is the best choice for your children at lunch. According to the American Academy of Pediatricians, "Children do need a certain amount of fat for brain development. But children now are getting too much fat from other sources.” After their second birthday, all kids should be switched to low-fat 1% milk, says AAP spokeswoman Tanya R. Altmann, MD. Most Healthy Lunches offer a serving of low-fat cheese to satisfy 1 daily serving of fat from dairy.
Thank you for allowing us to feed your children.
